In addition to his regular columns and interviews in Apollo's Lyre, Bret has written for several magazines and newsletters. Though some of the outlets are now out of business,
active links are provided where they're available, and in no particular order.
InformArt Magazine
InformArt is a quality trade magazine, specializing in aftermarket limited edition prints.
Though web-only at this time, InformArt was a print and internet outlet for many years. Bret wrote for them
for almost three years before they decided to hang up the print version. You can still see many of the interviews he
wrote for them in the magazine's archives.
Future's Mystery Anthology Magazine
Known to it's fans as "FMAM," Future's is the magazine responsible for the conceptual beginnings of NASTY.
A short story featuring NASTY's main character, Nate Jepson, appeared in the Spring 2002 issue of FMAM. Bret returned
as a columnist for FMAM when the magazine was sold to Twilight Times Books. His columns, "The Informant," and "Spotlight
On . . ." appear regularly in this quality mystery anthology.
Pikes Peak Writers NewsMagazine
Conferences play a vital role in the writing industry, and the Pikes Peak Writers Conference is among the
best. Bret has participated in this conference since 2003. A member of both faculty and staff, Bret runs the flash
fiction contest and corresponding workshop during the conference. In the off season, he sits on the board of directors,
is a member of PPW's Youth Program, and often writes columns for the NewsMag.
Susan K. Black: An Artistic Heart
Bret's first professional editing gig! From here he jumped to managing/contributing editor for
a local community newsletter ,"The Community S'Peaker," and then on to Apollo's Lyre. At the S'Peaker, Bret honed his
editing skills, as well as developed his interview and profile writing skills.
Clamcity/EOTU Ezine of Fiction, Art, and Poetry
Where the fiction writing began for Bret. Though he had several non-fiction and poetry credits
under his belt by the time his stories appeared in this wonderful ezine, this is where Bret's fiction career actually started
(ie; he got paid!) Sadly, this Clamcity/EOTU folded, but it is still present on the web in archives. Check
out Bret's stories "Nekros," and "Burned."
("Nekros . . . a weird one. Experimental. I'm still not sure what to think of it. . . ." - B.)
Chicken Soup for the Caregiver's Soul
"This link won't take you to the actual book. Instead, it will take you to an article written by Bill
Andrew. The article reprints my story, "Kite Season." In fact, this article came as a complete surprise to me
when I was researching links to include on this page. Imagine my humble surprise when I found an entire article dedicated
to my story. I am more than a little touched -- and greatly honored -- that my words
have offered some comfort and hope to those whose lives are devoted to the care of their loved ones. Salute."
Momentum Magazine (Formerly InsideMS Magazine)
A much shorter version of "Kite Season" (see previous entry) appeared in this publication under the
title "Picking Up the Pieces."
Grit Magazine
This time-honored newspaper apparently doesn't keep electronic archives, but Bret's mainstream story
"Green Apples" appeared in their April 2002 issue.
